Action Required: SP2 Reverts License’s back to Eval License Type

For a little bit of light comedy it was just announced a bug was found in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 farms where when you implement SP2 it will revert a Enterprise or Standard CAL back to an Evaluation Type License….the 180 day type.   I actually caught a glance and noticed this on one of my Lab Farms over the weekend and didn't really pay attention due to my occasional problem with being focus challenged. The real issue here is how often do you go back and look at that stuff after you have run your installation and configured your farm.. pretty rare huh?

Ok so this is not the end of the world and this doest detract from the benefits that have come to us via SP2 which are mentioned as well as other places.  The only ones that need worry are the folks that dont jump on this now and decide to wait 180 days or wherever you are in the countdown now :)   So the fix is pretty simple and you can follow along below.

How to tell if your affected?

Open Central Admin  then in Application Management open “Check Services Enabled on this Farm”  Have a gander… look for the Licensing warnings.

How to fix?

Wait for it…….

Just Re-add the license key   :)

Open Central Admin / Operations/ Convert License Type    Re Add your license and click OK.

Yes folks its that simple.

Apparently this is only affecting boxes that did not use SlipStreaming for deployment… Just upgrades to previous releases.
