Your incorrect.  make sure you type this exactly and -pv ondemand should be used.

Also make sure you use the letter o and not a 0 (zero) after stsadm -

Look on technet as well.  Its the same exact command

Great post Bob and thanks for the reference. I must admit this server core option is the way I am going to build my farms from now on. The improved flexibility in having a 'proper' AD instead of local accounts just makes it an obvious choice.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Disables DCOM modifications
Thanks Bob. This saved me a ton of time. I was very surprised when a two minute taks became 30 mintues (and a server reboot) for me.

I wish MS could just fix the root cause of the DCOM error (add the WSS_WPG group the DCOM object) and then we would not have to worry about this at all.

This is a nice add in... its going to be usefull once we get into the later stages of the build moving towards RTM next year.  Right now its just a pretty interface and not alot of folks are really looking at the overall performance aspects yet.  That will come in time.

As mentioned in post something you can use RIGHT NOW is the IDERA product that was originally built by Eric Shupps at BinaryWave.  Its simply hands down a fantastic product and its SharePoint 2010 ready.. so you wouldnt need another upgrade or purchase to start using this on your new 2010 pages.

Sure.  Today.  Worked fine.  Tested adding some additional content with the -noaddtions and it did what it was supposed to. ALso allowed me to remove some content from a announcment (shortening) and that also worked as expected.  AFAIK this was new to SP2.  Dont remember this being part of any previous updates.  I could have missed that but looking at the new documentation and talking to some peeps inside this is pretty much new.

Have you tried testing with a user that's not a SCA? In the past when I've tried to use setsitelock -noadditions it locked all users out who weren't SCAs. I haven't tried with SP2 but had observed this behavior with 3 separate clients.

I finished building a SharePoint VM over the Labor Day weekend using information you posted.  I used Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, MOSS 2007 SP1 (already pre-applied in the MSDN DVD I used), and Office 2007 Ultimate + SP1 added separately.  In a separate VMWare Workstation 6.5 snapshot, I installed the July 15, 2008 WSS + MOSS "infrastructure updates" to give me the ability to try things with and without those patches applied.  Everything works great.

Ah, Bob. All is not gold that glitters. Take the "Community Clips" part of this page for instance. There's already an Office RSS feed (and thus presumably a web page) which includes information on all the "Visual How To:" video items (and the equivalent articles). This is therefore nothing new under the sun but simply yet another example of Microsoft providing the same information in so many places you need to take your socks off to count them all. (Oh, and if that wasn't enough I have links to all the Visual How To: articles and video clips I know about on the WSS FAQ sites too. [But then I'm allowed - I'm not Microsoft ]) Mike
