I have Moved
All,
For the past couple years I have been with the same host and although the price was fairly cheap... so was the service at times and the occasional outages were a concern.

In the next few weeks I will be migrating my past posts to a new provider at SharePointHosting.com.  To save the trouble of resetting links i have set up a feedburner url at http://feeds.feedburner.com/BobFox

So what benifit will be gained by this move?  Faster responce times.... more reliable uptime.... the ability to actually search (my old host could never figure this feature out) and a much happier Bob Fox.

For the next couple weeks I will be keeping the old site alive but I will be setting up a redirect to this new site.  I also have moved all of my demos over to this site and plan to start doing some more in the next couple months.   If you are currently linking to me, Thank You for starters,  but you may want to update the link to http://bobfox.securespsite.com/foxblog

Thanks again and see you at the new site  :)

Ive been meaning to post a link to this guy for a while now. Yes most of my friends from the MVP community and a few of my favorite people outside that group keep up there blog postings on a fairly regular basis….but this guy posts on an average of 4 – 5 interesting posts a day….. but it doesn't stop there…. He also finds the time to also do some kick ass screencasts and it gets better.. he even finds the time to put out a few podcasts a day…. And there good ones also…. He tends to do them while driving from job to job so you get to experience all the thrills of the road (hearing him flip on the turn signals….. talking about someone he is passing that's moving way too slow…) I don't know if I should love him or hate him (he makes me feel guilty for not posting more) but I can assure you if you read his posts you will come away with some new views on how to accomplish things with your customers using SharePoint.

So who the heck am I talking about here? Mike Gannotti That's who. I have my own personal web site that offers a simple home page and then moves directly into my blog…. Its hosted and runs WSS 3.0 but Mike's site is so much more…. Go check it out and browse around… lots there to consume….. heck one of these days I may steal some of his ideas for my web site. It's just THAT GOOD!!!

Enjoy!

New WorkFlow Book

Wow…. The books are starting to fly onto the shelves now. Along with Todd Bleeker, Bill English and company, and Scot Hiller excellent offerings we now have another book recently released for public consumption. David Mann recently released Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System which details uhmmm Workflows J I have to admit there have been times where I found myself to be workflow challenged and from what I have read so far… this book should be a great resource.

Books Description:

Workflow is the glue that binds information worker processes, users, and artifacts. Without workflow, information workers are just islands of data and potential. Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System details how to implement workflow in the Office 2007 system to help information workers share data, enforce processes and business rules, and work more efficiently together or solo.

You'll learn about the benefits and requirements of organizational workflow and then watch as author David Mann builds an increasingly advanced workflow process, making use of both out-of-the-box and custom-developed functionality. You'll also get a taste of advanced workflow topics, and learn about additional reference materials and samples to build your own workflow process around Office 2007. The book comes with reusable, real-world code samples.

So if your occasionally challenged or simply want to get a deeper understanding of workflow technology give the book a look.

Book Review Administrator’s Pocket Consultant

So while at TechEd I had a chance to catch up with friend and fellow MVP Ben Curry. As some of you may know the bulk of our SharePoint MVP's are from the Developer side of things, some deal with both Development and Administration and some of us are strictly on the Architecture, Implementation and Administration side of the fence…. I am one of those people. So it was good to talk to Ben as he is also part of a small crew of us that do this for a living. Ben wrote the SharePoint Products and Technologies Administrators Pocket Consultant and gave me copy to do a review which I was happy to do.

A little background is needed before I kick into this. I have a number of clients I have been working with and one of the things I like to pass on to them is a set of best practices and how-to's of which I have written but now because of this book I can simply refer them to this. Why? Ben did an outstanding job writing this… he covers every aspect of Administration and also provides a lot of step by step instructions which is always a handy thing to put into a book like this.

So Ben gives a great overview of the Architecture behind creating SharePoint Farms. He then dives deep into all the other aspects such as Core Administration tasks, Configuring Search, Performance and Optimization, Backup and Restore and Disaster Recovery.

This is a must have for new and seasoned administrators and it is definitely a book I would recommend getting.

Enjoy!
